Vista / Windows Mail 6+ Setup

Please Note: The following account information is just an example.
You will put in your own name, e-mail address and password where appropriate.

1. Open Windows Mail and click on Tools > Accounts.

 

2. To Change an existing email account

Click here for Step 8.

To Add a new e-mail account

Click the Add button, choose Mail on the next screen and click Next.

 

3. Enter your name. This what the e-mail recipient will see as the Sender Name. Click Next.

 

4. Enter your e-mail address. Click Next.

 

5. Enter your server information

Choose POP3 for incoming mail server type.

Replace the "yourdomain.com" part with your domain name (after the " @" sign in your email address).

Example: Your email address is joe@mycompany.com. Enter "email.mycompany.com" for both the incoming and outgoing server names.

Checkmark "Outgoing server requires authentication"

Click Next

6. Enter your e-mail address and password. Checkmark remember password. Click Next.

 

7. Click Finish on the next window.

NOTE: This section also applies to making changes to an existing account

8. Open Windows Mail and click on Tools > Accounts

 

9. Select the account you want to change click the Properties button.

The Properties window will display the General tab first. You can put "Mynex" here or anything that best describes this email account.

Organization and Reply e-mail can be left blank unless you want reply emails to go somewhere else.

Checkmark "Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing".

 

10. Now click the Servers tab.

Server Information

Replace the "yourdomain.com" part with your domain name (after the " @" sign in your email address).

Example: Your email address is joe@mycompany.com. Enter "email.mycompany.com" for both the incoming and outgoing server names.

Incoming Mail Server

Enter your e-mail address and password. Checkmark remember password.

Outgoing Mail Server

Checkmark "My server requires authentication"

 

11. OPTIONAL: Click on the Advanced tab.

If you have trouble sending out email

Use SMTP port number 587 if port 25 does not work. Some internet / cable providers block outgoing email that is not using their domain name.

"Leave a copy of messages on the server"

  • Checkmark this ONLY if you will be away from your desktop for a period of time and would like to view new messages via your mobile PC, PDA, Blackberry, etc.
  • Also change the number of days to keep on the server to something like 7 or 14.
  • Remember, a specific amount of disk space (quota) is assigned to each email account. Once it is used up, incoming e-mails will be bounced back to their sender. You will also receive a warning email when your inbox reaches 90% disk space usage.

 

12. Click Apply, then OK. Then, on the previous window, click Close.

You're all done! Check for new e-mail manually by clicking the "Send / Receive" icon.
